PLACID measurement microphone sets pair a condenser measurement capsule with its matched preamplifier, supplied as one calibrated assembly rather than as separate parts. PLACID builds Class 1 and Class 2 condenser measurement microphones in 1/2-inch and 1/4-inch sizes, so a set can be specified free-field or random-incidence, prepolarized or externally polarized, to suit environmental noise, building acoustics, sound power or ultrasonic work. Buying the capsule and preamplifier as a set means the pair is calibrated together and the sensitivity on the certificate is the sensitivity of what you actually connect to the analyser. PLACID PMNU21 Class 1 USB Microphone
The PLACID PMNU21 is a Class 1 USB measurement microphone to IEC 61672. It covers 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a nominal sensitivity of 50 mV/Pa, a 26 to 126 dB measuring range and 48 kHz 16-bit digitisation inside the microphone. Because it needs no separate preamplifier, power supply or acquisition card, it turns any laptop into a Class 1 measurement chain, which suits field surveys, teaching laboratories, production line checks and long unattended recordings. The PLACID PMP21 is a 1/2 inch Class 1 free-field measurement microphone to IEC 61094-4, individually calibrated. It covers 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a dynamic range of 16 to 146 dB(A) and a nominal sensitivity of 50 mV/Pa. The high sensitivity and 16 dB(A) noise floor make it the standard choice for environmental noise monitoring, building acoustics and occupational noise assessment, where levels are low and the full audio band is required. PLACID PMP25 Random-Incidence Microphone
The PLACID PMP25 is a 1/2 inch prepolarized random-incidence measurement microphone with a nominal sensitivity of 50 mV/Pa. Its inherent noise is below 16 dB(A) and total harmonic distortion stays under 3% across the working range. Random-incidence response is the correct choice for a diffuse sound field, so the PMP25 suits reverberation room work, building acoustics to ISO 16283 and indoor measurement where sound arrives from all directions. The PLACID PMP41-A is a 7 mm Class 1 WS3F measurement microphone to IEC 61094. It covers 20 Hz to 70 kHz with a dynamic range of 34 to 164 dB(A) and a nominal sensitivity of 4 mV/Pa. The PLACID PNP21 is a 1/2 inch microphone preamplifier with a frequency response of 5 Hz to 100 kHz and self-noise below 2.0 microvolts. The PLACID PNP41 is a 1/4 inch microphone preamplifier with a frequency response of 5 Hz to 100 kHz and self-noise below 2.5 microvolts. It is matched to 1/4 inch capsules such as the PMP41-A, keeping the assembly physically small so that it disturbs the sound field as little as possible. That suits near-field and in-duct measurement, microphone arrays, ultrasonic work and high-level testing where a 1/2 inch assembly would be too large. PNV12
PLACID PNV12 Microphone Preamplifier
The PLACID PNV12 is a microphone preamplifier for PLACID condenser measurement microphones. A measurement capsule has a very high output impedance and cannot drive a cable on its own; the preamplifier converts that to a low-impedance signal the analyser can accept, which is what allows the microphone to sit at the measurement position with the instrument some distance away. The PNV12 accepts standard PLACID capsules and is used in environmental noise, building acoustics and laboratory measurement chains. PLACID PNV21 1/2in Low-Noise Preamplifier
The PLACID PNV21 is a 1/2 inch microphone preamplifier built for low self-noise and a wide dynamic range, so that neither the quietest nor the loudest part of a measurement is limited by the preamplifier rather than by the microphone. It accepts standard 1/2 inch measurement capsules and is used where one chain has to cover both very low background levels and high peaks, such as environmental monitoring near intermittent sources, and vehicle and machinery testing. The PLACID POFM-01 is a fibre optic microphone system with total immunity to electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. Sensitivity is 200 mV/Pa over 3.15 Hz to 6 kHz with 114 dB of dynamic range. The sensor head is passive and entirely non-metallic and carries no electrical energy at the measurement point, which makes it intrinsically safe by design for MRI scanner rooms, ATEX and IECEx hazardous areas, high-voltage substations and nuclear facilities.
